King Of The Road

We caught up with our world traveling, karaoke club dominating surfer Dave Yearwood to ask him about his recent attempt to become “King Of The Road.”

We hear that you took a spill the other day.

Yeah, it was an awesome day so when I finished surfing I decided to get on my motorcycle and take a joy ride. Everything was going great. The roar of my motor let everyone know I was the king of the road. I was riding high on my thundering hog that I liked to call “Goliath.” The cool ocean breeze was in my face them BAM. I was on the ground.

Are you OK?

Yeah, I just have some road rash. I didn’t break any bones or anything like that. God was definitely watching out for me. It could have been so much worse. As soon as I hit the ground I made sure all my parts where still attached. After about 10 seconds I realized that I was fine. Then I started to feel the burn on the back of my arm and down my side. I looked at my arm and realized I was missing some skin.

Have you always rode motorcycles?

No I started this summer because there was never any parking around Wrightsville Beach. I thought it would be the perfect way to get around the beach and the whole crew at Truth rides so I thought I would impress them and build my own hog.

So you built your motorcycle?

Yeah I took a bicycle from the 60’s and stuck a 2-stroke motor on it. I rigged everything up and the thing worked.

So it wasn’t a real motorcycle?

Pish Posh. Tomatoes, Tomotoes. My “Goliath” had the heart of a V Twin. Two wheels plus a motor equals a motorcycle in my book.

Why did you turn a bike into a motorcycle?

Well. My wife told me I could not get a moped because she was afraid that a car or something would hit me. I then knew I was going to have to “Find The Yes” if I ever wanted to have a sweet hog. So I looked at her and said, “Would you be happy if I made my bike my motorcycle.” She thought it was a good idea and she was proud of me for choosing to exercise more. Little did she know I was really going to make my bike my motorcycle.

Do you think you will ever rebuild your “Motorcycle”?

No, I think “Goliath” it is beyond repair. He snapped in half. I guess that a bike frame is not made to hold the sheer power of a 2-stroke engine. If I get on a motorcycle again I am going to let the pro’s build it for me.

So what’s next for you?

I am going up to the East Coast of Canada to find waves. Ironically we are going to ride bicycles the whole time. We are going to pull little trailers behind them that carry our boards and gear. It should be a cool adventure.

Be Safe Dave and stick to surfing.

Thanks I will.
